Fuel Crisis in Bangladesh Amid Middle East Conflict

Following the outbreak of war in the Middle East after attacks on Iran by Israel and the United States, Bangladesh is now facing a fuel crisis similar to many other countries around the world.
Long lines of vehicles have been seen at petrol stations across the country, with many people complaining that they are not receiving fuel in the quantities they need. The shortage has created concern about the stability of fuel supplies in the country.
Amid the crisis, India has supplied 5,000 metric tons of diesel to Bangladesh. In addition, Bangladesh has requested another 50,000 metric tons of diesel from India to help address the growing energy shortage. However, India has not yet responded to this request.
Traditionally, India’s relations with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) have not been particularly strong. However, after the BNP government led by Tarique Rahman came to power in February, the government of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed it warmly.

Some observers believe that India should assist Bangladesh during this crisis by supplying more fuel, particularly diesel. They argue that Bangladesh has already sought assistance from China, and Beijing may use the opportunity to strengthen its strategic presence in India’s neighborhood if New Delhi does not respond quickly.
