Britain Keen to Work With Nepal’s Newly Elected Government

The United Kingdom government has expressed that it looks forward to working with the government in Nepal led by the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), which won nearly two‑thirds of seats in Nepal’s recent parliamentary elections.
At a courtesy meeting in London, British minister Seema Malhotra (responsible for Indo‑Pacific affairs) met with Nepal’s Chargé d’Affaires, Bipin Duwaadi. The two discussed strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation on shared priorities.

During the discussions at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), issues such as Nepal’s political transition, trade and investment, climate change, and socio‑economic development were highlighted, along with Britain’s continued support for Nepal’s development goals.
Duwaadi said that Britain is “enthusiastic” about collaborating with the RSP‑led government and is interested in how it can engage with the party’s priorities as the largest party in Nepal’s parliament.
The meeting also touched on the Gurkha issue, with Duwaadi requesting support from the British side, reflecting the long historical ties between the two countries.
Britain has underlined its positive outlook on Nepal’s peaceful parliamentary elections, and the British Embassy in Kathmandu previously congratulated the RSP on its electoral success.
The relationship between the UK and Nepal is one of the country’s longest‑standing diplomatic partnerships, historically shaped by cultural ties, cooperation, and the role of Gurkhas in Britain’s military.
