IRGC has warned if the US attacks Iran’s energy facilities, Hormuz Strait will be completely closed

Tehran — The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps IRGC has warned that if the United States attacks Iran’s energy facilities, the Hormuz Strait will be completely closed. The statement comes amid escalating tensions in the region following recent U.S. and Israeli military actions.
However, Iranian Foreign Minister clarified that the Hormuz Strait is not currently closed. He said that ships are hesitant to pass through the waterway due to the aggressive posture of the United States and Israel, not because the strait itself has been blocked.
Earlier, on March 21, U.S. President trump issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Iran, demanding that the strait be opened. Trump stated that failure to comply would result in attacks on Iran’s power plants, beginning with the country’s largest facility.

In a statement to Iranian media, the IRGC said, “If Iran’s energy facilities are attacked, we will not reopen the Hormuz Strait until our destroyed power plants are rebuilt.”
The Hormuz Strait is a critical maritime route connecting Iran’s Persian Gulf to Oman’s Gulf and the Arabian Sea, handling approximately 20 percent of the world’s oil supply. Since the U.S. and Israeli strikes, Iran has effectively restricted traffic through this passage, contributing to a sharp increase in international oil prices.
The situation continues to draw global attention due to its potential impact on energy markets and regional security.
