US has announced a new investigation into India, China
Kathmandu — The United States has announced a new investigation into India, China, and some of its other major trading partners. This move comes after last month when the U.S. Supreme Court struck down part of the tariffs imposed by former President Donald Trump on India and several other countries.
On Wednesday, U.S. Trade Representative Jamison Greer stated that under Section 301, countries including China, the European Union, India, Japan, South Korea, and Mexico will be investigated for unfair trade practices. He added that new tariffs could be imposed on these countries by summer.
Greer explained that if any country is found guilty of unfair trade practices, the U.S. would have the right to impose import taxes (tariffs) on goods coming from that country. He expressed hope that the investigation will be completed before July.
Meanwhile, the temporary tariffs imposed by Trump on these countries are set to expire in July.
