No-confidence motion against Om Birla, seeking his removal as Lok Sabha Speaker
New Delhi:
The no-confidence motion against Om Birla, seeking his removal as Lok Sabha Speaker, was rejected on Wednesday through a voice vote. The discussion on the motion saw significant uproar in the House.
During the debate, a commotion erupted when Amit Shah was addressing the House. In response, the presiding officer Jagdambika Pal asked opposition MPs to return to their seats to participate in the voting process.

Despite the protests, the voice vote was conducted, and the motion was defeated. Following this, the House proceedings were adjourned for the day.
Home Minister Amit Shah accused the opposition of questioning the foundations of democracy by bringing a no-confidence motion against the Lok Sabha Speaker. He said such actions undermine parliamentary traditions.
Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition, claimed that he is not given adequate opportunities to speak in the House and alleged that the opposition’s voice is being suppressed.
The motion was brought with the support of 118 opposition MPs, who alleged that Om Birla displayed “biased behavior” and failed to maintain the expected impartiality in his office.
