US KC-135 Refuelling Aircraft Crashes Over Western Iraq

A refuelling aircraft operated by the United States Armed Forces has crashed over western Iraq, according to confirmation from the United States Central Command (CENTCOM).
The aircraft involved was a Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker, a military refuelling tanker used to supply fuel to fighter jets and bombers while they are in flight. Officials said the incident occurred in what they described as the airspace of a “friendly country”.
Two aircraft were involved in the incident. Military officials reported that the second aircraft landed safely, while the KC-135 tanker crashed.

The exact cause of the crash is still unknown. One possibility being considered is that the aircraft may have collided mid-air, though authorities have not confirmed this.
CENTCOM stated that the crash was not caused by enemy fire or friendly fire. However, officials have not yet released details about how many people were on board the aircraft or whether there were any casualties.
The incident reportedly occurred in Iraqi airspace, though officials have not clarified how close the location was to the border with Iran.
Refuelling tanker aircraft like the KC-135 play a critical role in modern military operations. They allow fighter jets and bomber aircraft to refuel in mid-air, enabling them to travel longer distances and sustain extended combat missions.
